Underworld Original Painting
2024. 20x24 Acrylic on Canvas.
An exploration of duality in the artist’s identity, by combining mythological elements from African and Mexican culture. The orisha Oshun rests in a cenote, a portal to Xibalbá (the Mayan underworld which all find themselves in after death). She is accompanied by an alebrije stylized xoloitzcuintli dog and a bat – both creatures associated with death and the spirit world in Mayan and Aztec mythology.
